Early Bird Series - 2013

Boat improvements, New Sails, First Win!
What a series! A lot happened in the six races but I think I will start at the beginning. As you can see by the photo below we started poorly :) We had the best handicap which meant we started first and very light winds in the first race really played havoc with our race.
Lion Island Series 2013

Interesting is what I would summarise our first full series in one word, and whilst we didnt cover ourselves in glory and take home the pickle dish, we didnt do too badly all things considered!
For those of you following along at home, you know we have a "wishlist" of things we wanted to get done on the boat. Funny how now we are racing that wishlist is becoming...get quotes, we need to go faster".
Australia Day - 2013

What a great day!! Welcomed old friends and made new ones, it was the sort of day that makes you glad to have the boat and be abe to get on the water!
We hoisted Morag up the mast to fly the flag, cruised around the bottom of Pittwater until the wind started to get up, at which point we retired to a mooring to make cocktails.
Whisper Mug 2012
So Morgs and I finally signed up for our first Saturday race a boat owners, and at the RPAYC no less...Billed as a family freindly casual race it seemed like a good opportunity to burst onto the scene without getting in the way on the boats doing their pointscore races.
Fair to say we went in with a few nerves and low expectations. Our motto on the day was "dont hit anyone and dont finish last" We achieved 1 out of two ... at least we didn't hit anyone.

Floor painting & antislip

After a good scrub the inside of the boat was not looking clean, with age there were quite a few scrapes, cracks and chipped paint. It turns out anti-slip paint is a bugger to clean.

Whale Watching / Spring Shakedown

Ok so the title is slightly misleading, it probably should have read looking for whales. We had recently completed sorting out our annual safety audit details and a few other little jobs. Inspired by an article on news.com.au we decided to combine our spring shakedown sail with attempting some whale watching.
Results 2011-12 Summer twilights

Results so far have not been particularly good! One DNF and one DNS
Our first twilight with a good bunch of guys from Optus was off to an ordinary start as we took off around 15 mins late for the start. On the plus side we did manage to catch some of the fleet. Unfortunately we were beaten by the wind and decided to motor back to the club in extremely calm conditons.
